IKEA x Refugee Council - Welcome Home

(Proactive idea - not live)

IKEA is founded on the principle of creating a better everyday life for the many, and making a beautiful and functional home achievable for everyone. Sadly, many thousands of refugees arrive in countries like the UK each year with nothing but the clothes on their back, or a small bag of possessions. If and when they do manage to get somewhere to live, they often have no furniture, cookware or bedding to make it comfortable. No bed to sleep in, chair to sit on, or pan to cook with.

So, building on their existing partnership with the Refugee Council, my idea was to launch a new VÄLKOMMEN (‘Welcome’ in Swedish) range in IKEA stores and websites. Including beds, bedding, chairs and basic cookware, every item scanned and purchased by customers is then donated to local refugees via the Refugee Council. An accessibly-priced VÄLKOMMEN pack containing home essentials could also be bought and donated by customers.
